He is frightened. He opened the door and nothing was there. Some one or something called his wifes name. He spook the name back and it came back as an echo. I think it is lenore coming back to hunt.
Someone is at the door and he opens the door. He says that he was sleepong and he didn't hear they at his door. He opened the door and there was only darkness. He heared the named, "Lenore!" (his dead wife's name). He said back to the darkness, "Lenore!" and the darkness say the name back. Then it was quiet. I think it was his dead wife.
